showpeople attempts:

a christmas carol

It’s December of 2012. Not only is the world ending soon, but a small troupe of writers and performers in The Middle of Nowhere, Connecticut, are working on a new MUSICAL adaptation of A Christmas Story… that is, until they learn the rights have been bought out from under them by some new, up-and-coming writers.

With only a day left before presenting to swanky producers, the team gets together to adapt something else… something… public domain.

Enter: Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.

Eh, we didn’t think so either.

The filming of this Original Musical Workshop also doubled as a working retreat of sorts—we were generously offered lodging and filming locations at the Marvelwood School in Kent, Connecticut.

We’d like to thank both the staff at Marvelwood and our own Resident Artist, Travis Lavigne, for helping us bring this project to life! We had a wildly exhausting, yet exhilarating and delightful experience shooting this more cinematic OMW.

does this story feel… familiar?

Kidding. In all seriousness though, we wanted to poke fun at our own writing process and give a nod to the classic time crunch trope. Will they succeed? Will they flop? Truly, only time will tell.

This wacky, meta-theatrical version of A Christmas Carol was written by a smaller team of 7 artists. In just about one week, we were on site filming our work with performers.
